A little background...

In seventh grade my art teacher had our class complete a paper cutting project that required us to cut and layer multiple pieces of colored paper to create interesting stained glass looking artwork.
Years later as an Art Education student at the University of Vermont the idea occurred to me to use this technique to create a portrait of a woman for an art assignment. A little stunned at the success of it, I continued to create more cut-outs, and soon it became my medium of choice.
I have had many homes...as a kid in Connecticut to the mountains of Vermont, across the globe to Singapore and currently, a sunny space in vibrant East Harlem. In each I have sat at a coffee table, armed with my x-acto knife, a cutting board, some spray adhesive, paper that speaks to me and the desire to create pieces of art that convey the stories of love, strength and beauty that embody the people they are for and about. My work with paper cutting continues to evolve, shifting and changing as I grow both as an artist and person. Finding new ways of working excites and motivates me to continue pushing the boundaries of my own expectations.
I currently reside in New York City, am the Head of the Visual Art department and the Community Outreach Coordinator at the British International School of New York. I hold a B.S. in Art Education from the University of Vermont and a M.S in Educational Leadership in the Arts and Technology from the Bank Street College of Education in partnership with Parsons The New School for Design.
